about

Pale Rabbits side A is a narrative electronic jazz noir concept piece designed to be played off 7" record, using its limitations as strengths. Side B is a piano deconstruction of the Pale Rabbits piece. Side BB works with the idea of a live-to-disc recording of jazz found in a basement many years later.

This is a digitised recording from the final copy (#111) of the Pale Rabbits concept 7". I hope you enjoy it.

Pale Rabbits (a tall tale)

Once upon a time I pressed 111 of these crazy jazz noir future fairytale records narrated by a Croatian writer and playboy model, pressed by crazy Germans who only press 7" records and are incredibly elusive - in the middle of the chaos-disaster of their moving... Originally concieved and storyboarded to have an accompanying comic as part of a compilation that never was, on a experimental Australian music label...3 years between finishing the original tracks (the original b-side Hearts Pulsate was replaced by a solo piano interpretation and a basement jazz piece with Waits-style vocals one-take-wondered by a friend I didn't even know sung) and final cutting... Mastered by one of the best vinyl engineers in Australia, whose name I always heard as a kid alongside Shane the Cutter as legends... Secret inscriptions on the run-out groove, decisions made in the literal (and metaphoric) eye of the storm as my life collapsed... A message printed on it that I received from a being of light doing a guided meditation while I was lucid in my sleep on my birthday... Pale rabbit designed by an obscure American who i met because of his interpretation of Charon as ferryman of dreams... Doing the graphic design myself over months because I'd run out of money long ago, living in a dilapidated mansion in a tiny town with an artist who (at his best) made Art with an A... Done to the absolute utter limits of my abilities in every sense... And the limits of vinyl, designed so the quality degrades as the tales ends, the reason for working with the Germans (most people aren't confident to press that long), part of the narrative structure of the title track... And now except for one box all that remain unsold went through the flood that destroyed my best friends record store...Thats what it took (and far more)...But I fucking did it, everything it took...And I'd do it again in a heartbeat, because that's what the music needed...Years and thousands, it doesn't matter... To me, at a certain point the real tunes get a life of their own and then it becomes a conversation, it's alive... And I'll tell you what that motherfucker lives <3.
